I Know God Has Nine Lives

God has left the earthly realm. She still expects your undivided attention.

Forget the gurus. Follow the cat.

For years, one man has known the truth: his cat, Fluffy, is the Almighty. Sleek, black, green-eyed, and notoriously difficult to please, she has ruled his household with divine indifference and an uncompromising position on dinner.

Then Fluffy dies.

The chair is empty. The house is quiet. And the man who believed he shared his home with God must face a question no amount of faith prepared him for: How do you go on when the small creature who filled your world is gone?

His wife, Sarah, calls it grief.

Fluffy calls it a good time to begin his education.

Appearing in his dreams, she is as imperious as ever—and considerably harder to interrupt. From her new position in the divine realm, Fluffy offers lessons on love, forgiveness, patience, and the human tendency to spend an entire lifetime worrying about things a cat would simply sleep through.

Her methods are unconventional. Her sympathy has limits. And her former caretaker soon discovers that receiving wisdom from the afterlife is one thing. Putting it into practice while awake, married, and unmistakably human is another.

But beneath the feline judgment lies an unexpected kindness. As dreams give way to difficult mornings, Fluffy nudges him toward a life he can still love—even without her curled beside him.

In I Know God Has Nine Lives, Philip Mazza returns to the world of I Know God Is a Cat with a witty, tender exploration of loss, faith, and the wisdom animals leave behind. For anyone who has loved a pet, endured an empty lap, or wished for one more moment together, this divine comedy offers laughter, comfort, and a reminder that being left behind is not the same as being left alone.

Perfect for:

  •     Cat lovers

  •     Theology enthusiasts with a sense of humor

  •     Anyone who suspects their pet might be secretly running the universe

Sometimes the deepest wisdom comes with whiskers, four paws, and a well-timed nap.
